OSHA’s Safe + Sound Week runs this week, August 10 through 16, 2026. It is a national event held every August to recognize workplace safety and health programs and share practical ideas for keeping workers safe. This year’s focus is safety and health recognition, with free resources and activities any business can use.
Last year more than 4,600 businesses took part. Participation is open to any organization, and it costs nothing. Learn more about participation here.
Why It Matters For a Dealership
A dealership runs on work that carries real risk. Technicians raise vehicles on lifts and jack stands. Body shop staff handle solvents, paint, and spray operations. Parts and detail crews lift, move, and store heavy items. Every department has chemicals, and most have equipment that can injure someone in seconds.
A safety and health program is how a store gets ahead of those hazards instead of reacting after someone gets hurt. OSHA’s point is straightforward: programs that find and fix hazards before they cause injury or illness protect workers and help the bottom line. Fewer injuries means less downtime, lower costs, and fewer record-keeping headaches.
Safe + Sound Week is a set week to focus on that program, whether you are starting one, restarting one, or recognizing the work your team already does.
The Three Building Blocks
The Safe + Sound campaign is built on three elements. They apply to a single-rooftop store and a large group the same way.
Management Leadership
Owners and managers make safety a visible priority and back it with time and resources. When the GM and fixed ops director treat safety as part of the job, the service drive follows.
Worker Participation
The people doing the work know where the hazards are. Technicians, porters, and detailers should have a real way to flag problems and suggest fixes without fear of blowback.
Find and Fix Hazards
Walk the shop. Look at the lifts, the exhaust extraction, the chemical storage, the PPE, and the walking surfaces. Fix what you find, and check that the fix holds.
How to Participate
OSHA keeps it to three steps.
- Commit and take action. Set aside time this week to focus on safety and health, then recognize your participation on OSHA’s site.
- Find materials and activities. OSHA offers activities, graphics, flyers, and other resources you can use to plan and promote events at your store.
- Recognize your participation. After your events, take OSHA’s short survey to download a certificate and a virtual challenge coin for your organization.
Ideas that fit a dealership: run a toolbox talk in the service department, walk each department for hazards, review your chemical inventory and safety data sheets, confirm eyewash stations and fire extinguishers are current, or refresh technicians on lift and jack stand safety.
Can’t Do It This Week?
That is fine. Pick a week that works for your store and run it then. The resources stay available year round.
